The
Flying Scott Doesn't Give An Inch
Rob Scott - 1998 IMCA modified Western Speedway champion
-by Lois
Pollard-Grant
Rob Scott
has won races in everything from hobby stocks to stock cars, superstocks,
old timers, and to IMCA modifieds - where he is the1998 Western Speedway
IMCA champion.
Rob rose
to national fame in 1994 when he was crowned the IMCA champion for Canada.
"It was a big deal for me," he said. "Over 100 cars from across Canada
competed for the title."
Rob (42)
acknowledges that he is an aggressive driver. And any driver who that
has ever competed against him will agree that the flying Scott doesn't
give an inch in his race for the checkered flag. His aggressive driving
style however, has paid off handsomely because in the last five years,
he has won four Western Speedway IMCA championships.
Add to
this: three Up Island championships, numerous other wins and track records
- and a room full of trophies to show for his years of winning.
The defending
champ considers himself a low budget racer and says "it doesn't necessarily
take a lot of money to be successful" (in racing).
"I re-use
things that most people never think of using. If something absolutely
needs to be replaced and it's a safety issue, then I will change it."
Racing
is obviously in the Scott family blood.
Pam Scott
(Rob's wife) while not a racer herself, has dug in as engine builder
on Rob's modified. "When I say she built my engine - I really mean she
built it," Rob say's.
"She measured
and sized everything herself." (Pam also serves as Regional Director
for IMCA British Columbia and is President of Central Island Modifieds).
Then there
is Rob's son, Ryan who will make his racing debut this season. The 16
year old will be behind the wheel of Rob's dirt modified.
Rob whose
main sponsor has been Kamchetka Management for the past three years,
will be back this year to defend his title.
